Background and training
I am a FDAP accredited counsellor with a PgDip in Addiction Psychology and Counselling, and a Post-Graduate qualification in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy. I practice integrative psychotherapy, which means my approach incorporates a number of psychotherapeutic styles such as humanistic, person-centred, psychodynamic and cognitive behaviour.
I abide by the Code of Ethics of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP).
About me and my work
I was successful at a relatively young age, holding senior positions within investment banks in my 20’s and playing semi-professional rugby prior to injury. To the external world I had it all worked out, internally I was lost and my mental health slowly deteriorated to the point of breakdown or what I prefer to call break-through. Consequently, I have personal experience of mental health challenges and the development of compulsive behaviours as coping strategies. Having retrained as a psychotherapist, I am able to draw upon these first-hand life experiences and the skills developed in the world of business and sport. This informs my rehabilitation practice which includes working with a wide variety of mental health difficulties including addiction, eating disorders, anxiety, depression and self-esteem.
I am also particularly interested in the concept of proactive mental health management and performance psychology. Specifically, how negative self-talk and cognitive interference impacts our ability to perform to the best of our capabilities and maximise our potential.
